Charlie's Chaplains Member Spotlight: Phyllis Heil The Whistling Woman

Phyllis Heil "The Whistling Woman" has been a Charlie's Chaplain hospital creative ministry team member since 2005, adding a whole new dimension to our performances at FRMC! On Rounds she often takes "requests" for favorite or special songs a patient would like to hear. The patients' reactions to hearing her music just for them are visible transformations of peace, joy and heartfelt appreciation. The whole scene is so moving for the bystanders gathered around.

"The Whistling Woman" also performs for church services, group, club, and civic meetings, and makes many other personal appearances:

In September, 2005, she appeared on “The Tonight Show” with Jay Leno. (Pictured)

Phyllis is the current 2007 International Whistling Entertainer of the Year, having also won this title in 2005 and 2006. She won the Grand Championship 3rd place in both 2004 and 2005.

Mrs. Heil performed at "Voice of the Blue Ridge" in Mt. Airy and was invited by Bill Gaither to whistle on stage during his Winston-Salem concert in April, 2006.

The Hickory City Council presented a proclamation to Phyllis Heil, 2007 International Whistling Entertainer of the Year, proclaiming October 2, 2007 as "Phyllis Heil 'The Whistling Woman' Day" in the city.
